E Matches was created by jhagan
Hello,

I spent some time researching e-matches. I have noticed e-matches are regulated, nothing is easy and the kits are not but I do like do it yourself approach. Can any body give me some guidance and or recommendation on this subject?

Thanks,

Joe Hagan

What are you planning to do with the e-matches?

I use flashbulbs to do electronic parachute ejection. (Buy them on eBay.) No regulation, work fine.

One suggestion, is Quest Q2G2 model rocket igniter as an e-match.

Fire at relatively low voltage / low current (works with capacitive discharge Altimeters).

Rocketflite make nice kits for both igniters and E-matches.

Might help if we know what your trying to light?

Eject charge? BP or Pyrodex or other?

Also what type of Electronics? Different units have very different power outputs.

Always ground test first.

Do flashbulbs require a shunt to protect against accidental firing due to static/stray sources? The shunt is removed/cut at the pad just prior to launch. -Alan

I hope not. I stop using shunts right after I flew a rocket without cutting them. I\'ve never had a flashbulb fire on its own.

I second the recommendation of the Quest Q2G2. I\'ve been using them instead of flashbulbs with no problems.

Well, no problem with the Q2G2s, at least.
