On 14 June, Flag Day, CMASS had a joint launch with the Rhode Island Model Rocket Association (RIMRA) at their field in West Kingston, RI. Ray DiPaola and his group were gracious hosts and offer a beautiful field from which to fly. As the weather forecast predicted shifting wind directions throughout the day, we set up in a spot that looked like it would accommodate the changes and it worked out perfectly (except for a few rockets that found the trees at the edges of the field - it wouldn't be a CMASS launch if Howard didn't hang one out there somewhere).

When the first request to fly a class 2 rocket above 1500-feet was called in to T.F. Green airport, they raised our ceiling to our desired 2200-feet, the altitude of the highest flight anyone expected to have. With that, we didn’t have to call in each high flight so we could concentrate on what we do best; fly rockets.

There was a good mix of CMASS and RIMRA members there with 118 flights ranging from A-impulse up to L1. Not sure if too many pictures were taken but check the galleries to see if any show up. Fliskits was at the field showing his support for rocketry in New England.

RIMRA holds their launches on the second Saturday of each month year round. If you’re in the area or even if you have to drive a bit to get there, it’s well worth it to fly with this group on their field.
